Bear Butte
From what I’m told, diesel engines use pressure to ignite the fuel. That pressure must be powerful, right? Obviously enough to blow head gaskets. How to avoid that unpleasantness?
It seems the temperature and oil pressure gauges vary with intensity and are thus good clues as to what is the right speed for the load, outside temperature, incline and maybe elevation. These I focused upon today.
The drive from Rosebud was different in that we took back roads and the bus led most of the way and thus I was able to set the pace. Today that was between 55 and 60. In fact, with attention, I could see the temperature rise if I was at 60 for too long. The high RPM sound never happened and I believe we’ve moved on.
We did have a wiper fluid mechanical. I attempted to clean the windows and it seems the hose burst somewhere. đŸ˜•
Setting up camp required ferrying our things a bit. Maybe 150 yards. That small distance made for much larger effort. Whew.
We are at a genuine Native American sacred site. Authoritized Vehicles Only said the sign. The mountain is stunning and I’m looking forward to exploration.
