East and West
We chose our next destination with an eye on avoiding a storm which brought rain and cooler temperatures. This meant Sedona was off the table given the likelihood of precipitation, and, with no more mid May trip for Mme Awesome, we have the flexibility to move away from the area. Our decision: onward to Taos, first stop being Silver City, NM.
Following some small shopping and a water refill, we returned to yesterday’s breakfast spot, Prep & Pastry, for a lunch stop. What do you know but they give away the unsold pastries to the last customers! Sated and with two yummy treats in hand, we left Tucson.
I 10, the main route we took, was mostly full of how dust storms are common and that one is to pull over, keep feet off the breaks, turn off everything and stay buckled in. I’ve read about mega car pileups from drivers overestimating their talent and/or equipment to drive safely when the valley is foggy.
The campsite is in a wooded area. We drove by, too closely, a number of deer. Extreme desert no more. We are also at 5500 feet and tonight is to be freezing. We sleep on the Continental Divide.
Alas I still have an issue with my rear tire holding air. There are two spots I see sealant oozing out: the first is on the part of the tire which touches the ground (see the photo below); the second is a nearly footlong section along the tire’s seam with the rim. If the parking lot repump doesn’t hold, next step is more sealant; then I guess maybe the tire needs to be reseated or something.
Sealant hard at work!
