We got to a campsite late last night, put up the tent and that’s all she wrote. Until the wind kicked up. Wow, this wind is the kind that pushes you around and does nothing good for ears.

Which meant getting up to see if the chainsaw ear protection would let us sleep. While better, no true succor.

Our tent is a version of the REI Half dome with panels made mostly of mosquito netting. Did you get it? Wind + desert = endless dust. That means we are getting covered in dust. Waking up means noticing our mouths are gritty. Our faces have a film of dirt. Think Interstellar.

We can’t put up the rain fly because the tent would then likely blow over. So I get back up and pulled out another groundcloth/tarp and somehow set it up. God only knows at what time it is at this point. Finally, anyway, we are able to get some sleep.

This morning was the first serious discussion about renting a house. Just packing up was unfun and the idea of something more robust and equipped with running water was very appealing. Right or wrong, however, we decided against as the only places available were in LV proper and thinking it over made us feel bleck.

We did come to town for some errands and heard from a quirky UPS store employee that, yes, wind is common. Good news: the back window is completely visible and there is nothing at Mme Awesome’s feet. Hooray for everything!

Back to the wind. Yes! Still windy. To pass time we looked for a cafe. We chanced upon a possibility in one of the endless supply of malls and it turned into a delicious dinner of eggplant parmigiana and salmon. We both can highly recommend Cafe Chloe.

Weather report says wind is supposed to die down at sunset. We’ll see!
