Entering Red Rock Canyon
After another delicious breakfast and a reorg, we headed to the Red Rock Canyon entrance. Then we saw the line, which reminded us of the Bay Bridge toll plaza, and mutually agreed there must be a better option.
We biked up a trail from a lot on the side of the road, hoping to get to the base of the towering cliffs. While we definitely were advancing, we were told the trail wouldn’t get us there. Still, we got closer.
On our way back we took a side trail and found a slow flowing creek. I can’t imagine how much water pours through the gully when the brief yet intense rains come. There were actual deciduous trees and it was as if we entered another land. Like in Death Valley, we experienced a palpable change in humidity. To top it all, we soaked our shirts to turn on natures AC. Here is a photo from the spot.

We also found sage.

For our post ride meal, we finished the Friday $5 Chicken Bucket special with a salad, stopped at Washbasin Campground to clean up and drove back to camp off Lovell Canyon Road.
