Wheels Go Round
I’ve been working on the bus while it is parked in a dirt spot next to the detached garage. The weight of the thing plus the already wet soil plus the additional rain made for spinning dualies. Frank showed us how to pull out the bus.
First we attached one end of a chain to a frame crossbar and the other to a Ford Bronco’s birch. Now that is a decent sized vehicle, four wheel drive, etc. With the bus in neutral all the Bronco’s wheels did was spin, certainly proving that crossbar was plenty strong. I added in some additional, gentle help from the bus and presto we got out safely. Mental note: get a length of chain and a winch.
The goal of all this was to take the bus to some garages and body shops to get perspective on what is to be done. The first place couldn’t handle a vehicle this size and recommended another garage. Reviews were good and off I went for the 15 minute drive.
The guy said the undercarriage rust is no problem. Nor is the interior rust I asked about. That’s great news! The other items, meaning full flush of all fluids and brake check, will be scheduled and away I went.
Back at the place I restarted the removal process for some rails which used to hold down the port seats. I finally, last resort, pulled out the grinder. Weird, not as much sparks. Turns out that per the internet heat + aluminum + small flakes + maybe other stuff = explosion.
Ok time to grind. There is certainly room under the bus. Maybe enough for me to sort of lean and feel, while not all, certainly most of the sparks. To be frank it is pretty awful. Then the grinder blade snaps and woah that means taking these off is for the garage with the lift.
Back inside, I busted out the heat gun and razor scraper to get the caulk off from under the windows. More my speed. After a bit I stopped. Today plus yesterday comes to almost half done. That’s nice.
We moved into Teyuna Foundation World Headquarters. It’s our hosts other home up the street from where we’re staying which is on the market. This is where the Water Training will take place and where all the people will stay.
No furniture, so we are back on our comfortable camping bed. Actually not totally true: the CEO, Mme Awesome, has a sophisticated formerly for playing cards table and a pair of chairs.
