Double MacGyver
A delicious breakfast of fried tortillas, eggs and cheese was sandwiched between two wonderful swims in Craig Creek to which the recreation area at which we slept uninterrupted owes its name. Post swim we sat on a log in the sun, enjoying the breeze, dragonflies and green. Many of the riverbank rocks were curiously thin, nearing two dimensional actually. Isn’t it marvelous how a bit of wet changes the color?
Then it was drive on time, and on we did, where, along the way, Mme Awesome magically repaired the laptop charging cord with a safety pin.
Upon arrival at Wolf Gap Recreation Area, we walked the loop to find all the sites taken and spare cars in the parking lot. No bother though, as we showed up needing nought.
Ok, not exactly: we were dripping coolant. Definitely I saw the warning light while driving, and when checked saw the overflow reservoir was unusually low. Opening the cap would mean hours of waiting while the engine cooled and arriving after dark at the campground. So I drove on, nervously watching the thermostat.
Back to the dripping. Mme Awesome got right to it and found the cause was a broken hose clamp. I whipped out a zip tie and a few minutes later the dripping stopped, either due to implementing a real temporary fix or simply running out. Luckily we are carrying coolant and tomorrow will, hopefully, refill and make it down and get a proper hose clamp.
