Getting In Shape Sucks
Went on another ride today. Along the way I stopped to chat with Mme L, a new friend and fellow DJ. Did you know she was the first Kiwi to do a backflip on a balance beam in competition and an Olympian? Wow.
At first she must have figured I was coming to chat about the radio station; it was only after I gave some info she saw who it was behind the helmet and glasses.
I also saw M J, who lives along the way. Somehow we missed each other last visit and it was great to catch up.
The route was to the start of the White Cliffs track. Much of the climb is on a gravelly dirt road. Really, going downhill on a gravelly dirt roads is one of my nemeses as they are so slippery. Still, that slipperiness is a superb motivator for proper turning technique. We’ll see.
Also along the way I practiced manuals and, happy surprise, actually moved on to some bunny hops too. As I laughed about with M J, this bike is a great opportunity.
Prior to the self powered excursion, we all saw a wonderful and sweet play about the absurd governmental practice of dumping poison in the name of environmental health. Like, wtf?
The play again got me thinking about my own path to improved kinematics and the difficulty I’ve had in my own comprehension of others advice, experience and wisdom coupled with disseminating what tips I have found invaluable: what if I wrote a play to do the explaining? I mean, for goodness sake, that’s what Hamlet used!
I say again because it crossed my mind as Mme J shared Cuisenaire rods – Te Ataarangi, a teaching method using sticks to convey complex topics over supper that perhaps it was a better way. However sliced, it is a shame how long I endured and wow it’d be great if I could better communicate what I’ve learned.
Sunset is nigh.
