Solo
We said our goodbyes at 5:30 am, when Mme Awesome went to board a work related flight to Boston. She certainly could have flown out of Oakland; she came this far to make the lamest part of the drive less lame. Isn’t that awesome?
Afterwards, I drove to a nearby trailhead to sleep. Wouldn’t you know the water fountain was chilled.
Anyway, I woke up, faffed a bit and took off for succor from the heat in the Flagstaff area. At one of the places, I met a guy who was very enthusiastic about regular 3000 mile oil changes, ho hum, relatively, about the fuel filter. My diesel guru, who lives in Wyoming by the way, had something to do with a fleet: he said the oil samples were always clean up to 15000 miles.
The kitchen is great. Seriously. I cooked two meals today, a kale cut with scissors omelette and later pancakes, and then did the dishes.
The electric is another story. My memory is the battery voltage was never below 14. Then the right front signal light fell out and one of the effects was an endless beep from the big Collins circuit board which, to stop. I unplugged one of the speaker wires and haven’t done anything towards a proper remediation. My guess. It’s true that later on I had that apparently mostly worthless garage add a solenoid so the second battery couldn’t take from the one in the engine bay. Potentially then, maybe. Net result is the house battery doesn’t get above 10.6 V.
Still, when off it charges stuff and runs the pump. I need a part and then I’ll know if it’ll power the fridge too. Anyway, I’m ok with the fridge running only when the bus is on. Meaning what if I keep the crappy battery? What would that do to the alternator? Or get a new, proper deep cycle battery? Supposedly the need is 60 AH / day. With simply the shut the fridge off overnight plan we drop in need.
