Seeing The Unseen
The maps provided by wilderness.net are just fascinating. No real surprise that I’ve been drooling over the possibilities and potential plans for the local Crestonia area. What is especially attractive are the dirt roads and trails, however decrepit. which supposedly exist as they may offer a [semi-] prepared way up to the essentially unlimited elevation.
With regards to what does exist, I’m still recording as I go, though some of the connector trails are so small the Trailforks app apparently ignores them if I double back to resume the ride down.
Yesterday I had my first shuttle yay. Actually, all the trails I’ve ridden are shuttleable. The day before yesterday I went up towards Willow Creek Trail Head and again eyed the trail going north east off the dirt road. I’ll have to be more recovered to see where it goes.
There are some turns which desperately need help that I/we regularly ride and now that the grasses have had a first pass, these are getting attention. Two are needlessly way off camber, maybe due to drainage or alien intervention; the other is a tight almost 180 around a fallen tree where with a good berm the section would simply be more fun and with the maintained speed it’d help what follows. Some sections are just too sandy too; I’ve read from someone in Florida, where there is only sand and pine trees, that pine needles will provide a binder that makes for a more stable surface. Certainly, once pointed out, it is self evident that under pine trees the ground is not the same loose sand.

Thanks to Mme Awesome we are hooked up with the Valley Roots Food Hub, which acts as a bridge between local growers and eaters here in San Luis Valley and Chaffee County. The term used is community supported agriculture.
Yesterday we picked up our first box actually. Well, actually our second because when we showed up for the pickup only one remained and we took the guess it was ours though truth be told the subscriber had left it from the prior week.
How was the contents not rotten after hanging out for a week? The pickup location is an ante room with an AC controlled by something akin to the product which can turn a freezer into a fridge. There’s also added insulation and clearly time has been spent sealing joints. Zeke approved.

More parts of the condo are exposed, most recently the south side downstairs soffet hiding upstairs plumbing. The dryer is upstairs, sitting idly in a corner. It’s tough getting tradespeople here frankly; thus far only a chimney installer has physically showed up. I had a phone conversation with a solar installer too, though she can’t come by until next week.
Actually, the chimney installer has a source for 350 watt solar panels. These are leftovers from mammoth jobs / purchases. He says $300 for less than 10 and $250 each for more. Wow right? I’m looking forward to getting some on the roof so we can again cook for free like on GBI.

We saw some previously unseen neighbors. Maybe they were moving in? Maybe. I’ve actually never seen anyone carrying what they were carrying how it was being carried. I mean batteries, grow tub, plant after plant, more batteries, more plants, a big screen tv (duh!) and a couple bags of what we guessed were clothes. Two guys and a gal. Given the data points here, is it still neighborly to come by with a pie and knock?
