Riding Keystone
Even bigger and higher up than Trestle is Keystone Park. As I made my way here I drove through and near places that were always so remote and exotic as a kid. Not everyone came here to ski in the winter (or at all) and everything is apparently just bigger and more mature when it comes to these places.
Like the lift at Keystone that takes you up 2360 feet. That’s half the Downieville Downhill elevation change. Last night I consciously budgeted 4 trips down – each one is a commitment!
Each group is a ride down.
- Girl Scout
- Mosquito Coast
- Beans for Breakfast
- Butchers Hook
- Bluegrass
- River Run Trail
Fun stuff.
- Cowboy up
- Motorhead
- Paid In Full
- Boy Scouts
- Wild Thing – this was over my head in several spots
- Bluegrass
- River Run Trail
The first three trails were a knockout.
- Cowboy up
- Holy Diver/TNT/Holy Roller – overall Motorhead is more for me
- Loggers Way – never again, lots of small jumps, minimal turns, loose and too steep, glad I made it
- Boy Scout
- Bluegrass
- Sleepy Hollow
- Easy Street
This second half is better than taking River Run
- Cowboy up
- Motorhead
- Paid in Full
- Boy Scout
- Bluegrass
- Sleepy Hollow
- Easy Street
My favorite route.
I rode Boy Scouts so many times and can recall essentially nothing of it. Those prior trails had me focused!

Folks, the fuel tank is actually over 32 gallons rather than the 30 per the manual. This much too stressful learning opportunity resulted from incorrectly thinking I could fill up where I couldn’t and having to drive an additional 14 miles. I’m guessing the fuel warning light, never before seen or considered to exist, comes on at 30.
