First Thing Done
The roof is done. Seriously, this is the first thing of the final product completed. Hooray!
I stepped on the wet paint right at the end while on the roof. Shoes slippery with silicone while 10 feet off the ground and then I have to navigate to and down the ladder holding the paint can and roller.
I’m probably halfway done on the exterior sanding. Maybe two more passes over the next couple of days. I’m wearing a hat, dust mask and glasses in 90 degree temps, either holding a hot orbital sander or making the sanding block sing. I keep reminding myself I used to endure what were surely more challenging crew practices in such weather.
I picked up a notebook to sketch out the interior layout and get an idea of the needed plywood. I want to get the pieces cut so they can be painted and have a good shot at drying despite the humidity before they get put in.
Here it is! The front is to the right. I’d also like to have a section of the sofa closest to the shelves be removable in case we are stuck in a storm and want to get what is in the way back.

If time permits, I’ll add a pair of deep cycle batteries charged by the alternator and perhaps a solar panel and also a 50 gallon water tank underneath. The batteries will be mounted under the van too. The electricity is to power a small refrigerator. The inverter and others electric-related pieces will be in the forward section of the long, driver’s side self and the spigot would be placed pretty much right underneath that same part. We’ll take out the shorter sofa and add a cabinet under all that stuff post tour. I’m crossing my fingers!!!
Which of you spotted the seemingly VERY SERIOUS no bike space design flaw?
Have no fear little ones: between the two shelf towers in the rear.
