Upping The Ante
Being honest, neither of us are genuinely in shape. Zeke’s definition of in shape, in one sentence, today, is being able to do stuff such as biking pretty much day after day and enjoy the experience. I’d say I relinquished my club membership in 1991 and since have steadfastly maintained my hiatus. Obviously I’ve done stuff since then, just not in that sorely missed manner.
Right now I’ve ridden the 5.2 mile half dirt half paved 600 foot climb here to Serenity Way with Mme Awesome for a weekly meeting out in the Baca. By the way there’s 300 feet more to climb on the way back. Plus yesterday we rode a shorter version with the same 600 feet up. I’m currently flat on my back on the floor resting.
I’ve read that our legs more or less feign fatigue. Meaning essentially we always can do more. That’s yet another bit of Bill Starr wisdom. That said, I don’t recall whether one must already be in shape for this to be true. Or maybe it was clever propaganda to get us back on our feet. #fakenews perhaps.

We had a spectacular thunder and lightning storm pass through. Sweet air and the originating gusts facilitated an aspen symphony. A pack of coyotes howling for a bit too. Apparently the llamas keep the coyotes away. Be sure to not depend on the screen doors keeping out the bears as they’ll tear it up no problem to get at some cottage cheese in the garbage. Yes this really happened!
