Scouting It Out
I’m sitting at the base of Trestle Resort watching folks come down where a black diamond and greenie end for a quick trip back to the lifts. With maybe a dozen riders have passed I’m surprised that no one is doing the full tilt + dropped outside foot on the drool-worthy corners. What’s up with that?
Glad to be out of Denver. Both of us commented on the air. Rancid was the best adjective we thought of. Unless gross is better. The contrast with Crestonia is the most noticeable drop in air quality I can remember.
Ok this person did do the foot drop though no tilt.
An e-bike? I wonder if that person pays for a lift ticket or e-bikes up the access roads?
Anyway, the place is majorly elevated: here at the bottom is above 9000 feet. One can see obvious avalanche hot spots along the drive here. Near them and at the trailheads are signs warning back country skiers “long range artillery” is used to trigger the snow and can happen “at any time” wow!! One of those obviously hotter spots was strewn with fallen and stripped tree trunks.
Lots of long sleeve wearing folks coming down the mountain. Must get colder way up top. Gotta remember that for tomorrow.
I spoke with an essentially laconic dude from Wisconsin who came here for this park about his thoughts on the park. In a picture: 👍🏽.

There’s a lot of water here. I mean waterfalls everywhere. The roads have large basins along the switchbacks to manage the seasonal deluge, reminding me of LV. There are still patches of snow much farther up than I’ll go this week. Some look mammoth. During spring this place must gush.
The spot for the night is close to a rushing and extremely refreshing brook in the delightful cold style. It’ll be sweet to hear tonight.
