Rules And Choice
We often play rummikub. Some days more than one game even. Yes, we are able to work it in, somehow. Generally (exclusively?) at meals. Games can run over several by the way.
I think the first amendment to the rules was playing with 2 sets each for a while hoping to get more tiles on the board. We still alternated, though keeping track of which board was up became tedious, and, with the other changes doing a better job, basically left this one in the gutter.
We play that a tile can be put down the same turn it was picked, eliminating that dull wait between the pick and ultimate placement. Easy improvement.
When and where was the first the Triple Pick? (That’s when the player pulls 3 tiles and chooses any or all to play.) Sometimes the three are all duds which led to Infinite Triple Picks, though that’s really just for when we want the game to have concluded already.
Also, our first move can include played tiles, though what we do put down in our first move must still add to at least 30.
We play that exchanging a duplicate tile is acceptable too. Game play is just better.
To support mass board reorganization attempts, we adopted the proposal that should the moves not result in a legal board, the reorganizer simply picks up the extraneous tiles.
The newest improvement is each starting with a joker. This came last night when the jokers came early and made for plenty of super fun board reorgs.
